......

I really feel like not liking things anymore because everyone else likes them & I hate that!  I mean, everyone’s Tumblr is filled with sooooo many of the same things.  It’s not even because people have things in common; it’s because so many people are “followers”, and in more than just the Twitter sense.  Just because Twitter is mainstream does not mean it’s okay to be a follower.

At first, I thought it was because with the advent of the Internet, people were able to connect with like minded individuals more easily.  And that’s true to a certain extent.  Then I realized it was because with the advent of the Internet and social networking, people could hide behind a computer.  People don’t know who they are anymore.  They don’t have an identity, past their rap monikers or relationship status.  Because they’re lost.  Because the Internet makes it so easy to copy & paste not just pictures and words, but pieces of personality.

It’s okay to be inspired and it’s okay to adapt concepts, because there are very few things under the sun that haven’t been done, as Nas says.  And it’s stupidity to reinvent the wheel.

That’s why Lady Gaga is so popular- because she’s herself, all the time.  She does what she wants- she wears what she wants.  People admire her because they don’t have the courage to do it themselves.  Like Scarface said, “You’re all a bunch of assholes.  You know why?  Because you don’t have the guts to be who you want to be.”

If I like something, it’s because I LIKE it, not because it’s “hot” or everyone else likes it.  All of a sudden, girls are obsessed with certain designers- do you even KNOW about that designer? Their life? Inspirations?  Do you care to learn? No, you just see the brand Chanel (example) and by default, you want it. Some of the designers who aren’t in it for the art know this….that they can slap a logo on it, and sheeple will buy it.  That’s not a love of fashion or style.  Like Coach bags with the logo all over them.  Really?  I want to be a brand myself, so I don’t want logos plastered all over me.

Let’s go back to Chanel, my previous example.  One reason Chanel is so amazing is because it’s high fashion and she herself was an illegitimate kid, basically orphaned; She didn’t even come from the class she dressed.  Women weren’t supposed to have careers those days either, especially not high society women.

Handbags- were originally for men. If you wanted something out, you had to ask your man.  So a handbag IS like Ms. Bradshaw said- “Balls are to men what purses are to women.”

Fashion doesn’t have a label, and wearing Chanel or whatever designer doesn’t make you fashionable by default.  Some of the most fashionable people I know aren’t dressed head to toe in labels.  A few expensive pieces and a few cheap pieces- mix it up and no one will ever know.

Me, for those that don’t know me- I’m just the type of person that I like to understand the reasons behind things- I like to understand inspiration because it’s EVERYWHERE.  I want to see what the artist saw, I want to know what the artist knows. Because it will make ME a better artist.  And I want to know what makes what I’m wearing special.

I don’t speak on my moods, or emotions a lot, because I like facts.  So a lot of times I will express it through my clothing & makeup.

“One should either be a work of art, or wear a work of art.”  - Oscar Wilde

Why not do both?  But why not KNOW who you are, and what works for you, and stay true to yourself.  Because you, the way you are, are beautiful.  So you can stop hiding, and you can stop feeling like you need to fit in.  It’s perfectly okay to stand out.

Do you think Albert Einstein, Lady Gaga, Jay Z, Alexander McQueen, Coco Chanel, Kat Von D, Dita Von Teese, Mother Teresa, Gandhi…do you think any of them ever “fit in”?

If you repost this, please do not take credit, because you’d look really stupid encouraging people to be themselves, when you stole my words as your vessel  :o)

December 4 - Happy Birthday Hov.

I am so for sure it’s no facade that today should be a national holiday.  Seriously.  Even though I know Tito Grahmz disagrees and can’t believe I’m serious.   I mean, we have Thanksgiving (Hellday via Nas) and we’ve turned the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre into Valentine’s Day to celebrate love (Cupid’s got an AK-47; love really does kill, apparently.)  So why can’t Hov’s birthday be a holiday?

“This is more than marketed music; people have pain, I’m just walking them through it,” as Jay said in “You’re All Welcome”.  I think he deserves a round of applause….and the winner is…HOV, my man!

Watch the video.  There are definitely moments of Nicki going goo goo for Lady Gaga and Minaj also admits to drawing inspiration from Rihanna (who has also been accused of “stealing style” and had her moments of style similarity with other celebs).

Now don’t get me wrong- I love Nicki Minaj.

What do you guys think?  Or is it true what Nas said-

“No idea’s original, there’s nothin new under the sun
It’s never what you do, but how it’s done.”

I mean, Britney Spears was into leather & lace way before Lady Gaga.
